Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

Well, the big race is coming up. I couldn't find a current thread for it so I thought I'd start one for those interested in chatting about it. Apparently record entries again.

I'm personally not so interested in the really big maxi's. I'm more interested in the 'normal' boats. Must be lots of people out there whom can afford to bring their boats up to the category required for this race.

Anyone any thoughts?

I see the same lines are being trotted out by the CYCA press agent/journalist Amanda Lulham. Yet again she references Wild Oats and the other maxis as some of the fastest boats in the world. Hell they aren't even the fastest boats in Australia.

Yet again it will a sailing race won by a boat that runs its engines all the way to Hobart. Talk about motorsailing!!

Totally agree, whether you are using an engine to turn a prop or turn a winch, its still running the iron horse!

They are the fastest "real" sail boats.

If they are not 'some of the fastest boats in the world' what are they then?

Well, I give it to you that normally the race finishes on New Year's Eve with only the scraggler coming in later.
