This website provides resident and transient boaters with an easy-to-use selection guide to anchorages in southwest Florida. All of these anchorages were selected to accommodate vessels with a draft of 5 feet or greater (many can accommodate a draft of 6 feet or more), except for three with an approach channel depth of 4 feet (Yacht Club Colony, Power Plant Slough, and Point Blanco #2).

There is an anchorage just to the north of the Pier. A friend is on the hook there and has been for some time now. If you want power, water and so forth then the St Pete Muny Marina is the one just south of the pier. They transient slips.

You can anchor without harassment in both the Vinoy basin north of the pier, and also on the south side just off the channel into the southernmost slips at the Municipal Marina. For the southern anchorage hug the breakwater as far SE as possible. Downside there is that you are directly beneath the flight path of the general aviation airport - a busy one at that. Muni marina does not have a dinghy dock.

Vinoy basin is not the best holding ground and is open to wind / swells from the east. Dinghy dockage available there at the Electric Boat tours & rental dock on the southern shore for $5 per day. Vinoy is usually crowded.

You can anchor in the Vinoy basin if there is room. I'm pretty sure if you anchor more than one night you must buy a permit from the city and I believe you are limited to three additional nights. The bottom is downright nasty there.

No permits or permissions required for any anchorage in St Pete
