You do make a lot of sense ... although for us, it's not "doable" this hurricane season or the next .... however .... 2007 it's asta la bye-bye baby!!!!

Bob, I was also refering to the Marina's insurance just as much as the boat owner. If a Marina gets destroyed once a year, insurance must get tuff for them as well. Unless the Marina is making a packet and the overheads are not an issue.
Also Bob, is that $10-16/ft per week or month or year???

$10 per foot per month, plus we pay for electricity used, a small fee for living aboard etc. Ends up being around $450 USD a month. Don't know how that compares with your area, but it's pretty darn cheap for around here.

Well, I just like to make sure nobody takes the post the wrong way when it's one like that. Since this is the internet and all, and nobody can hear my tone of voice, it avoids any arguments online.

Plus... I'm half joking too when I say people might get mad.

What marina is that in the photos?

We got caught by Dennis in Niceville, FL....about 40 miles east of landfall. I took all the sails/canvas/etc. off and set the big bruce anchor out on 90' of 3/8" chain with a 10' nylon snubber.

We came through fine but saw at least six boats drag ashore onto rocks and trees. They had all set dual anchors that either fouled or chafed through.

My wind instrument registered 55 knots as the max but Eglin AFB was just across the bayou and registered a gust of 110.

Scary stuff.....

I don't know much about getting away from hurricaines but I have a lot on a canal in Mississippi. Just off the Jordan River.

I've heard the area is used as a hurricaine hole.

It's free for anyone needing a sheltered site during the season. No bulkheads yet but it's near the end of a channel and quite pretected from the wind.

I'm not using it so if anyone is interested, shoot me an e-mail for directions. It's got 100 ft. of water frontage.
