Stanley Paris circumnavigation
76 year old man left this morning from St. Augustine to solo-circumnavigate non-stop in less than 150 days. Custom built the boat for this trip. One neat feature is that he designed a "crash" chair to strap into, complete with harnesses and helmet in the event all hell breaks loose. Pretty interesting person. He swam the English Channel at 70.
You can follow him at www.stanleyparis.com with position and blog updates 3-4 times a day. Also contains boat and personal info. Should be fun to follow his adventure

Checked out the site. What's he eating on the voyage, does he have an electric stove?

He's deffently got the boat for it! I don't know for sure about his stove, but just looking at the stern, with the 4 hydro-generators on top of the 2 wind generators and a huge array of solar on deck, I'm sure having enough power for an electric stove wouldn't be a problem. Then again he could be using a simple alcohol stove…
I didn't get to see his sendoff this morning unfortunately (he was scheduled to leave on sat but had to wait for better weather to make it through the inlet) but I stopped by yesterday and snapped these.

Also, what is the actual record? Is it for a certain route of circumnavigaton? Sailors in the Vendee globe sail around the world in less than 80 days? What is the 150 days for?

Boat looks like it will sail itself, probably only has to push a few buttons the whole trip....

He'll be the first with no hydro carbon foot print, he's not going for speed

There is no real record to be made.
An older Japanese guy has done it.
And as you say the french have done it way quicker.
And there also have already need zero carbon trips completed. (note: I choke a bit at the zero carbon claim when he is sailing a carbon hull and mast).
The 150 days comes aiming to beat Dodge Morgan's time on American promise (set in 1986).
Technically what he says he is doing is setting a record for a very particular route: "St. Augustine to St. Augustine around the world solo, unassisted and non-stop".
