Re: SSB or SatPhone?

To all who have answered, my very grateful thanks for all the responses. Overall the exit polls seem to be split 50/50 with many suggesting that the belt and braces option of having both is the ideal. However, as other items have now emerged that will cost a tidy sum my budget (for example an arch to carry solar panels and antenna)will probably constrain me in my final decision, and I suspect that the sat phone (yellow brick) will prevail for the Atlantic crossing. Thereafter I will be in a position to take stock and add the SSB for the Pacific.

Fair winds and calm seas to you all

As you probably know the Yellow Brick is no phone at all ;-)

But if you consider a Yellow Brick why not take a Delorme inReach?

Regards,

Carsten

SJFK,

Congrats on reaching your initial decision.

If you are going with a Sat Phone then I highly recommend you look into UUplus. The cost of that service more than pays for itself in sat minutes saved each month... We use it for email, Wx products [including Fax], etc. once and often twice daily and stay under 400 mins/yr.

If you go that route, I recommend you get it set up and become familiar with it while you have internet access, then test with your sat phone. [UUplus works with any internet connection...]

[I'm just reiterating and expanding upon a mention I made in an earlier post on this thread...]

In case this is helpful.

Cheers!

Bill
