spreader and shroud lashing

hi, I'm giving my boat a bit of a tune up and was wondering what was the best way to lash my shrouds to my spreaders. My spreader have a spreader tip that has like a D-ring clamp that goes around the shrouds and keeps the shrouds from falling out of the spreaders, but does not prevent the spreader from rising or falling down the mast. Over the spreader tip there is a cloth boot.
Thanks for the input
