Spinnaker sheet recommendations

I'm looking for recommendations on what type of line to use for asymmetrical spinnaker sheets, 35' Tartan 3500, performance cruising. I started looking at New England Ropes Sta-Set. This lead to Sta-SetX, which opinions vary on whether this is suitable for sheets. One claim is less stretch, other claim is doesn't feed through blocks and winches as well. Better suited for halyards. Then, I looked at Samson XLS, which lead to their MLS, with less stretch and higher strength.

The racer side says go with the high-tech lines; the practical side says go with either Sta-Set or XLS.

For daysailing, weekend trips and local cruising series racing, is it worth 2x price for the more exotic lines?

For your application Sta-Set is perfect. I raced for years using Sta-Set sheets. As described the Sta-SetX is stiffer than you need. Unless you are racing at very high levels, and counting seconds, there is no need to spend the money for the exotic stuff.

A little stretch in an asymmetrical kite sheet isn't much of a problem. It actually may help reduce shock loading when the kite collapses and re-fills with a bang.

With a symmetrical chute having a low stretch guy is good. When you have the pole way forward on a reach the guy loads get really magnified and with a stretchy bit of line, pole control is poor.

You should have no problems with any modern double braid line of appropriate size in your application.

I appreciate the comments, especially Jim's comment about stretch in asyo. Any difference between New England Ropes Sta-Set and Samson XLS - both are around $1/foot.

I compromised and purchased Samson XLS Extra T. This double braid line has a Dyneema blend core with about 1/2 the stretch as regular double braid. This costs about 30% more. Last weekend we practiced with the sail in light to moderate winds. I used an undersized line, which I felt was difficult to handle, both in line handling and stretch. I definitely felt less control than compared to high-tech sheets and guys found on many race boats that I've sailed with. Hopefully the new line will arrive by Friday so we can test it out!
