I'm not sure the OP said anything about single handing...

the question was A-sym or sym based on simplicity and ease of use. I vote for an A-sym as well.

east to run downhill on an a-sail just drop the main, sail any angle and still have lots more area than a winged set-up. On a small boat should still be easy to recover without the blanketing of the main. cheaper set up costs and much easier to gybe shorthanded than a sym, you can saty in the cockpit.
