South East Spain. Gib to..?

Hello all,

We're almost round to Gibraltar and heading East into the med. Was just wondering if anyone has any tips for this coastline? Trying to avoid high-rise hell if possible.

Any insider info on this stretch would be most welcomed.

All the best,
Simon

gday Simon. Some details in our blog on that coast at Sephina: August 2012
and check the next month or so for beyond Cartegena.
BTW, how was your trip down the coast? Any updates or advice for Spain and Portugal?

Looks like you anchored a lot down there? I wasn't expecting to be able to do that as all the guides say you can't.

Was it ok? Nicely protected?

Photos look amazing by the way! Excited to head down there over the next week or so.

Yes lots of choices for anchoring when we sailed down there, although most of the winds were probably offshore or light onshore from memory. If it was a howling southerly or easterly Id probably be looking for a marina to hole up in till it passes. From memory there were a few capes you can choose your side of to get the most shelter. We used the Imray coast de la sol guidebook along there.

Depending on the weather you can anchor but be aware of localised weather which can be unpredictable. The latest RORC Costa Del Sol pilot should give you some good guidance.
