Hahahahahahahaha

There is no coming around, I posted preferences for Cats and boats in the past year and the Broadblue has always been at the top of the list.

When it comes to monos, I have a preference for the chunkies. I like this:

I really like seeing Herreshoff boats.
Me too! Most Herreshoff boats anyway and it does depend on which Herreshoff of the family designed it. I sailed on a Marco Polo as crew but didn't really think she was a beauty. The one I really liked was an S-Boat but a different Herreshoff designed her and she was too small for cruising.

Herreshoff Designs is still building boats. Ofcourse they've chosen to honor our maritime heritage instead of building boats that look like spaceships so they must be ugly.

Herreshoff 43

Classic American designs have withstood the test of time, the true measure of aesthetics. I doubt there will be any museums dedicated to the current crop of modern European designs 50 years from now. More likely people will wonder what the hell they were thinking.

Boat: So many boats to choose from. Would prefer something that is not an AWB, and that is beachable...

Modern European design is already in the museums right now. I have no reason to suppose it won't be 50 years from now...

Me, I look at some American cars and wonder what the hell those designers were thinking. (Wooden paneling on the outside of a car, really?)

You mean like the 1933 Rolls Royce Phantom II Shooting Brake?

To be clear I was only referring to modern sailboat design. I just don't believe that the modern sailboat designs from Beneteau, Jenneau, etc will stand the test of time. Of course this is just my opinion & a gross generalization. I'm not foolish enough to pretend that my opinion is fact.

Regarding cars it's my understanding that a lot of classic American cars have made their way to Europe & Australia. A lot of classic American sailboats have been imported as well. Personally I'm not a huge fan of classic American cars. I much prefer European.

Gary,

I'm sure you'd have no difficulty putting one of these American classics in your garage for short money.

I think even you'll admit, it doesn't matter how many of these sold... it's just butt ugly.

Re: Some yachts are plain ugly and some beautiful, why and does it matter?

Don't look at market success as a yard stick for great design and high quality. The lowest priced little strawberry box houses always out sell higher priced better built and designed houses. The same goes with the cheapest cars. You can take it right down to the cheapest hamburger. So why in the world would you actually believe that the cheaper entry level sailboats are design and quality built leaders??
