Out of necessity most owners will fit accessories such as dodgers, biminis, davits solar panels, tender, outboard, wind generators, radar, fenders etc. These appendages usually detract from the appearance , but the effect is different from design to design.
The pictures in the manufacturers' brochures naturally do not include these options.
The other consideration is outside storage. Cruising boats get littered with all sorts of junk. If there is suitable storage for these items the yacht will look far less cluttered.
Equipment choices also play a role. A generator is not seen, unlike solar and wind.

Good point.

Grazie.
Anchor set pictures will follow. Got a new Gopro with an official dive case.
I'm going to ignore Gary's post... because I know he probably spent an hour looking for that ridiculous photo, not knowing it's a famous boat designed by Antoni Gaudí .

Far as I'm concerned any boat that is getting regular use ISN'T ugly, even if may be appearance challenged.
The only ugly ones are the ones that sit all alone a loooong time with no people aboard. Especially the ones that birds have claimed as a waste disposal site.

Just beautiful. Why? I have no idea. I have always been drawn to the more classic looking lines of this style of boat. The Hans Christian as well.
In the end, I don't think it matters why. It moves me, that's what matters.

Hey! Warhol is a famous artist but I think most of his work sucks..... Besides..... I found it in 45 seconds... Besides, I think the boat was designed by Fred Fanackapan and Elsie Gummershaw from number 52..

Gary,
I know you have a soft spot in your heart for the ugly and and fugly, but the Italian yacht designers are cutting edge and kickass compared to the designers/manufacturers in the USA who seemed to be mired in the 1970's. And the U.S. manufacturers wonder why they can't sell anything? Who in their right mind would want to spend a million bucks on dated fugly?
I see these types of yachts out cruising the Med all the time, usually with bronze tanned sexy women and men on board, and the decks cleared of any clutter and junk.

Sure.......... nothing to hold on to- just wide open spaces. Not safe Ken. Looks good. Kinda like the De Tomaso I had a few years ago..... when stuck in Traffic like everyone else, it overheated and the clutch would break your ankle.....
I agree regarding the styling- I dont agree about the functionality. Its a posing boat or a racing boat- Not a sensible cruiser.
It will kill you.

Boat: So many boats to choose from. Would prefer something that is not an AWB, and that is beachable...

I like this:
Good ergonomic cockpit, tiller steering, versatile sailplan.
Interior looks pretty seaworthy too:

Re: Some yachts are plain ugly and some beautiful, why and does it matter?
To my eye, if you want the ultimate in beauty for a modern yacht, you need to look at racing, not cruising yachts.
The required room for accommodation always slightly spoils the lines of a cruising yacht, at least until it gets very large (65 feet plus). I also love all the technology in racing yachts. The carbon fibre and titanium. The parts that are drilled out to provide the absolute minimum weight. The attention to detail like aerodynamic profiles on the stanchions. The closer you look the better it gets.
The real clincher is to see these boats sailing. There have been plenty of photos in this thread of cruising boats, but a top racing boat with its super light ends, deep keel and low displacement, moves with a poise and grace that cannot be appreciated with a still photo. The high tech sails with multiple adjustment options mean the sails set with a aerodynamic wing profile. Even if you knew nothing about sail trim it just looks right. The tall mast with a high aspect ratio makes the sail plan on our boats look dumpy.

Gary,
I guess you didn't get the Ford memo on the De Tomaso needing retro fit cooling fans. With the fans... no more overheating. Regarding the clutch, my Ferrairi clutch pedal also requires 35lbs of pressure... it's not a car for the weak legged.
In most cases, a woman is in charge of giving the OK when it comes to buying a boat, and with them.... fugly isn't going to get the nod of approval. Ever notice how the dumpy boats generally seem to be inhabited by single males? Occasionally by a single female? The dumpier the boat, the more the inhabitant looks like a bum?
And yet, these same individuals seem completely mystified as to why they can't find a mate.... as they ponder their predicament whilst sitting upon their eco friendly composter head.

Re: Some yachts are plain ugly and some beautiful, why and does it matter?
I think boat design has gone decidedly down hill after Carl Alberg, William Garden, Bill Crealock, Robert Perry and others who drew boats that looked like boats not spaceships.
