Re: single handed insurance

Orion Jim - good point and I'll probably use the same justification for the insurance. Single handing across major blue water is not a good gamble as far as loss is concerned but close to shore the blame game comes into play. And for insurance companies that is a win win game...!

Re: single handed insurance

Coverage for coastal sailing is easy to get. It's when you leave the confines of the coastal limits that you can't get insurance for solo sailing. Would be willing to bet that Ms Socrates had a coastal policy for cruising in Mexico and that's what she collected on. If she'd been offshore outside the coastal limits of the policy she wouldn't have been covered.

I'd suggest that you call Richard for advice. Welcome To Fastnet Marine : Fastnet Marine

Re: single handed insurance

Fortunately this old chap was insured. He had sailed around NZ maybe a dozen times. I think he was in his eightys. I got the boat at auction for $1150.00 in wellington patched it up sailed it to Auckland. And sold the lead keel for $5500. https://i.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/...ington-Harbour it certainly pays to be insured.
