Shoes
I suppose this goes under this forum. Was wanting opinion of others on what they feel is the best of boat shoes. I unfortunately have very flat wide arthritic feet so my "barefoot" days are over. I have worn Sperry shoes on the boat but there is not much arch support to them. Shimano makes a "Croc" style shoe but they do tend to be hot and cause my feet to sweat.
Just give me new ideas of any shoes out there I might try.

Any shoe that is comfortable with a non marking outsole will fit the bill

Re: Shoes
We wear Keen sandals on the boat, ones that were not specific for marine use. Comfortable, didn't mark, and my wife had mobility issues and found them "supportive".

Re: Shoes
The Sperry boat shoes get very slippery after 12 to 18 months in the tropics. They get to the point of being dangerous. In cold climates I wear boots most of the time while the boat is moving. Keens and other water shoes (not boat shoes) work well in the tropics.

Re: Shoes
I also like the Keen sandals (and shoes, and boots...). I also wear the Vibram Five Fingers and Teva Zilch sandals. These are "barefoot" shoes. Although the lack of support can bother my wide, flat feet if I wear them all the time, I find that wearing them strengthens the muscles in my feet and lower legs. So I try to wear them regularly in situations (such as on the boat) that don't involve walking on pavement. I wear the Keens everywhere. The Vibrams give me the feeling on the boat of really being barefoot, while protecting my toes -- I feel very sure footed in them. They do look goofy, however.

Re: Shoes
i wear bare feet.
i have clear wide decks and am have been bare feet sailing for about 60 years.
i found sperry topsLiders are exactly that...sLIders. no traction even when new.
oops
the best shoes i found are no longer made. they were omega reef warriors.

Re: Shoes
Barefoot on boat most of the time....
But I think Sebago makes a much better shoe than Sperry... I have tons of both, but the Sebago are my two "yard/resin" pair... Much better support and grip than the Topslider... albeit a bit heavier shoe....

Re: Shoes
I typically wear crocs underway. Durable, cheap, good at keeping your feet healthy, does double duty as shower shoes in marinas.

Re: Shoes
a good court (tennis or badminton) non-marking shoe works well and had great grip when being very active like racing.

Re: Shoes
I have found that the Sebago models with a thicker sole offer a lot more comfort and support. My Docksiders were killing me, so I switched to their Clove Hitch model, and the pain went away...
