Yes, the USPS offers General
Delivery services.
Determine which post office will hold your mail. There is a designated post office in each town that will hold general mail. If you're in a small city with only one post office, that is where your mail will be held. But if you are in a larger city, you must find which post office handles general mail. Visit or call any post office for this information.
Tell all your contacts that you will be using general delivery. Your mail should be addressed as follows: your name, "general delivery," and the town where you want to pick up your mail. For example, if you're staying in
San Diego,
California, your mail should be addressed as:
John Doe
USPS General Delivery
2701 MIDWAY DR
San Diego, CA 92138-9999
Visit the post office to collect your mail. You'll have to show and ID. A
current passport, driver's
license or state ID will do.
Let the post office know if you won't be able to collect the mail within 30 days, the length of time mail is normally held. As added
insurance that your mail will be held, have your mailed labelled "Hold for Delivery."
