As well as the slot, there's another point between Hunter's Point and the San Mateo bridge where the winds can get pretty strong and the fetch is considerable. The worst spot is near Coyote Point where it starts to get shallow - in the afternoon the waves get steeper and closer when they hit the shoals and it can be quite entertaining.

The "slot" isn't usually that bad, but the chop can build up with a strong westerly combined with an ebb tide. The choppy waves in San Pablo and Suisun Bays are worse in those conditions.

Exactly. You have not lived until you've sailed in San Pablo with the winds blowing 30 with an ebb current. The chop between Pittsburg and Port Chicago can be quite fun too. 3-4 foot chop with peaks 20 feet or less apart. Lovely time...
