Selling of "Flipping" Boats from US to AUS?

Hello,

I've heard you can sail a solid production boat from US to Australia and capitalize on the mark up. Is this true? Has anyone 'flipped' a boat for profit in this way?

Met a few in Panama with Cat's from the Caribe who planned to do just that... how successful they've been I cannot say...

Often the word "flip" understates the level of work and risk involved in these transactions.

When I was a little kid, someone told me that cats always landed on their feet, so I grabbed a cat and threw it about 20 feet in the air...They don't land on their feet!

I've had a couple of australian clients who have "flipped" their boats... I would say they don't really make money off of the boat... They normally just offset the cost of their cruise.

The last Australian I sold a boat to was bringing his third boat back to Australia...

Australian boat prices have corrected due to the large amount of people that had that idea for years, me included.

Weakening Aussie dollar is going to increase your buy price.

Large capital outlay with large risk

Months and months of work (unpaid)

If you are considering this venture don't do it for the money. Do it for the trip.

This flipping has brought some great yachts for Aussies to enjoy and helped bring down the price of local boats.

You have missed the boat. Pun intended.

As an attorney licensed in the Federal Court of the USA as well as the State Court of Pennsylvania I would say that if you are looking to make money by 'flipping' expensive boats the way someone might by 'flipping' real estate in a non-recession economy (read 1999-2006) then you are in dream land.
But it is a good question and I admire ambitious persons. So, good for you. But there are 1,000 ways to make money that does not involve the luxury market in a difficult global economy.
But hey, I could be wrong so give it a try....just make sure you use 'someone else's money' (SEM) instead of your own. Let me know how it works out for you in case you decide to 'go for it!' I am always open to further education.
