Blogs are so Web 1.0

I use telepathy - for a simple one off fee, subscribers get a special hat that allows them to enjoy the thoughts of DOJ..........24/7 . Plus it saves me writing stuff / getting off me backside .

I am working towards an IPO sometime in 2013 - I reckon if Facebook (cough, South Sea Bubble, cough ) is worth $100 Billion then my Website is worth at least that .

Re: Self Promotion (Changing Values?)

I once sold someone a glove puppet - it was simply a Glove half turned inside out!......so I reckon selling a telepathy APP would be no problem, the only question is whether enough money to make it worthwhile.

Getting close,,, need to tune it in some,,,,i will try a different channel on the ipod to see if that helps,,,,,also it was not 100 billion it was million so we are getting close the the wave length. As for the some thing you can not say well let me put it this way,,,,,with the 100M I would buy a power boat and go on a quest for the ultimate b--- --- experience. travel the world looking for that while writing a blog about the whole thing,,,maybe a movie also

Re: Self Promotion (Changing Values?)

Some are much worse than others to be sure. All blogs, though, are self promoting by nature.

I tend to admire those who cruise to locations that lack wifii and don't need to holler over the internet " LOOK AT ME!!" seems all too many of today's cruisers travel from one wifii hot spot to the next. Gotta keep in touch, Yea,right...Then they are troubled by, well all the trouble that any high concentration of humans eventually leads. Especially when the area is economically poor.

I've been a crudmugeon for some time now.

actually it was another greek sailor that brought it from delphi Delphi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia around 790 bc as these guys had discovered fire there, and thought it might be a good idea to build a stadium ,and since the cornish were making the best bronze tools in the world at the time ,paid us a visit so they could build a few temples and stadiums using cornish tools and knowhow........

and that my friend is how come we had stone houses whilst you lot further east were living in mud huts

Atoll-if you had just thought to have some guns (especially from British manufacturers) airlifted to those islanders, maybe along with some Rocna anchors, you might have been knighted!

I'm an avid reader of sailing blogs and my favorite thing to do is look at the pictures and pretend it's me having all those grand adventures, but lately it seems that more and more blogs are self promoting, grandiose bits of marketing or a sly way of panhandling funds to support a cruising lifestyle and I'm feeling manipulated.

One blog for example: after a couple of years of minimally admirable adventures to the Caribbean, but plenty of whining and panhandling, this young blogger sells her boat and has turned her blog into a slick commercial enterprise and has gone on the lecture circuit. Now I don't begrudge anyone a living and even admire a well-done marketing campaign, but for god's sake, please accomplish something worthy of selling before you turn completely to the dark side.

If I ever write my story I might say something like:

"I'm going on the same adventure thousands of other people have done before me, and my adventure will not benefit anyone but myself, because it's about me and my very private spiritual growth."

It's not about you or saving humanity ...

There are plenty of old-timers out there who have actually done something noteworthy and while some may have commercialized their adventures, the ones I admire most do not self inflate their own importance or feign altruism. The Pardeys, for example or Beth Leonard and Evans Starzinger, for example. The guy who wrote his story on "Atoms Voyages" described a fantastic adventure. It was well told and included not a bit of self aggrandizing egoism in the whole damned book, and he offers it to the public for free! How refreshing!

I guess I haven't had enough coffee this morning but really, take your self tooting horn and....

So this morning I'm announcing the beginning of my journey to Starbucks. I'm doing this for humanity so please clap and cheer for me as I make my way there, and remember I'll be signing autographs when I'm through. Actually, let me start signing autographs now before I've actually begun.

Oh, and If you'd like to sponsor this amazing adventure I accept paypal.

If someone's buying, then she had something worth selling.

A WOMAN accomplishes all that and you don't find it remarkable? How good does she have to be before it's good enough? If Zeehag, or Serafina -- or even me -- finds a way to earn money by our sailing, who are you, or anyone else, to tell us we didn't deserve it? Because you personally didn't find it interesting?

Friends have told me more than once that I should write my sailing adventures down. Personally I don't think so. I think they're the standard foibles everyone has gone through -- like the last one. Someone threw a dock line onto my bow at the last moment as I pulled out. It turned into a beautiful day for sailing, and I forgot all about the loose line on deck -- that is, until I really needed to bring the headsail in and the loose line fouled it. I ended up having to sail through two bridges and then safely anchor the boat without the boat ever completely stopping. That, of course, led to new problems. But the whole day was a grand sailing experience. I sailed the boat completely on a port tack for 4 1/2 hours with varying winds and learned a lot in the process. Especially about the wisdom of stowing lines ...

Would someone PAY to hear that story? Maybe. If I can pull that off, am I entitled to the money? Absolutely.

Self agrandizing has become an art form. Mostly bad art. Of course the difference between a sea story and a fairy tale is "Once upon a time..." and "This ain't no Sh*t..."

What I don't get is, why isn't voting with your mouse enough? Why not just accept different strokes for different folks?

I agree that Sailing Simplicity's blog is much better now. Actually it's quite well done. I wish her nothing but the best of luck.

My rant wasn't meant to single out any one blogster though, just speaking in general terms.

I've done promoting for my own work. Humility doesn't get you interviews.
