Living in North Queensland (Australia), I sometimes come across articles written about the food readily available that is found on the foreshore as well as in the oceans for the taking.
When we start cruising, how do you know what is eatable and when it is ready to say, pry of rocks?
Does anybody know of a book that has all this information in it?
We live in an environment that has food readily available.

There is a book called 'sailing the farm' that has a lot on seaweeds etc in it...sorry can't remember the author but I guess you can google it.

Cookery writer, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, in the UK has a lot of stuff on his website you will need to search the forums though...

Cruisers handbook of fishing by Scott Bannerott is excellent for what fish, shellfish etc are good, how to catch and prepare them

The main problem is that most books are specific to a particular geography so you may need to look closely at the area you will be sailing. Best of luck...

I gather and catch much of my food. I rely on gov't info on red tides (paralytic shell fish poisoning) and sanitary contamination with regard to bivalves as well as common sense and observation. Don't harvest in areas where there is industrial or residential build up. Prefered areas for harvesting have good tidal flows.
