Re: Sea Shepherd adding yet another to its fleet

It was my understanding that these guys were just sea terrorists! I understand that to some a terrorist is a freedom fighter.

Indeed , in fact many such freedom fighters or terrorists seem to end up becoming presidents , parliamentarians and what not, it seems.

Ronnie you lost all credibility with me when you said harvesting gators was just population control while at the same time hysterically ranting about wiping out of all sharks just cos we remove the odd one from dangerous areas.

Its exactly this type of illinformed hysteria that SS targets with their propaganda.

Due to the ending of the population control measures and a little genetic mutation the gators grow bigger and in a few years there are a decent number up around 60 feet that start hanging around out the front of marinas waiting for a tasty yacht to come out where it promptly wrestles with it and swallows the human occupants that fall out.

This happens 10 times in 2 years and the calls for something to be done start to come from widows and other yachties worried to risk sailing past the gators seen regularly outside their marinas. The local government issues an order to remove any gators over 50 feet from the immediate vicinity of marinas etc

SS gets involved and starts posting that its a "cull" and that all gators are being murdered and that gators over 50 feet are extremely endangered and after all the gators were there before people had boats and they dont really eat people naturally etc

Ill informed types from other parts of the world that only fact check through the SS sponsored links (if at all) start bleating "Save the Gators" and so on.

Then really informed types start quoting statistics like "in the last 50 years there have only been 10 yachts attacked by large gators so thats only 1 every 5 years so no big deal" Another says its only 10 in 100 years so its even less of an issue than that.

Then they start getting active protestors from 1000s of miles away to remove the traps at night because the government didnt listen to their little protest and instead continued to act to protect its sailors by removing only those that were close to yachts.

I could then get on the internet from safe little WA and tell you all to just sell your boats and go do something else. What Joy!
I had no idea that Sea Shepherd were protesting against gator control?
Have you a long for this news?

Is it now?

I don't sail around in a fleet of high tech whaling 'ships'!
I'm not illegally hunting whales in a sanctuary!

What does fouling a prop do? It slows them down. They may have to send divers over the side to free the prop. To date I think the record was a 12 hour delay and the devil of a thing was off hunting again.

Does it out sailors at risk? I doubt it. There not stranded at sea, because there is a fleet of them. If by some good stroke of luck SS manages to permanently seize and engine, then all they will do is tow the thing back to port.

The Japaneese and the Spanish financed poachers can be assured that if they were behaving like this in Russian waters they would probably be sunk. That's a real issue of safety.

Come on guys, let's contribute to the discussion without the petty name calling.

If you dislike SS that much, that's fine, but just don't read the posts let alone comment.

why is that? dont you want open discussion or is just money donation exercise.

here is why SS suck :

go back to MED and fight for fish population and clean seas. As you know there is no fish and med sea is disgustingly dirty, especially under surface.

Then I will contribute my money.

Paul Watson puts his ship and the lives of his crew at risk. He should not be given a new ship, he should be given a desk job.

"Why is that"? No, I don't want your donations and I'm not a member of Sea Shepherd. I'm asking the name calling to stop so that the moderators don't shut the thread down! Is that unreasonable?

Your problem of the med I don't understand. SS DO fight for fish populations and clean seas.
