SBS Sailing Booster System

Long time lurker, first time post. Does anyone have an opinion on this that they would like to share? I have limited sailing experience and don't own a boat, so I'm fairly ignorant to how things works, but it looks pretty cool to me. Any thoughts would be appreciated. https://youtu.be/p9I40mXHf6A

Re: SBS Sailing Booster System

Hi and welcome to CF. So if you don't own a yacht or have little experience what is your connection with this?

Pete

Re: SBS Sailing Booster System

Relatively speaking I don't have much experience, but I've chartered boats before, am certified up to my ASA 104, and my wife and I are planning on cruising full time in about two years.

I ask about this system because it seems to address many of the drawbacks (at least in our minds) to owning a mono, but I can't seem to find anything out on this product other than this YouTube vid.

Re: SBS Sailing Booster System

Interesting idea, BUT, the power requirements must be huge.

Probably means running a genny nonstop.
Cruisers won't like to do this.

If retrofitted one needs to be aware of the increased rigging loads as well, as there is no heeling. Rigging needs to be beefed up multihull style.

Re: SBS Sailing Booster System

Interesting idea. BUT: complicated, reliability/maintainability not proven, heavy weather safety not demonstrated, etc. About the very last thing you want to put on your first sailboat is new, unproven technology.

Re: SBS Sailing Booster System

All of the above.
If you are that keen on less heel, just get a multi.
Enough high maintenance gear on a mono already.
