Sarasota boat ramp

I have a 25' oday with 4.5' draft on a trailer, any suggestions for a ramp that we can get 5.5' water depth. Also any suggestions for reasonable slip or mooring.

I am thinking you may need to take it off at a marina with a travel lift. I don't think you will be able to back far enough to get it deep enough to launch. It would have to be a steep ramp with a heavy duty tow vehicle if it was possible, but I doubt it.

You might think about a long bolt on tongue extension for your trailer. I used a 6' extension on a sailboat I had years ago, to reach deeper water. You may need a 20' extension for that draft.

You might want to look in on the Sarasota Sailing Squadron at City Island, on the west side of the Bay adjacent to Mote Marine Laboratory (see Sarasota Sailing Squadron | Home ). They have an abundance of trailer-sailors and good launch facilities that might suit your needs. Membership is (relatively) inexpensive and there are a lot of good folks aboard.

FWIW...

Thanks for the help, we went to Sarasota Sailing Squadron and used the crane to hoist the boat in. Great place and the people were very helpful. We sailed out through new pass, lots of skinny water but a beautiful place.

Aero--

We're glad that worked out for you. Your yacht is the perfect size for Sarasota Bay and environs. There is a very nice anchorage on the Gulf Side of the Bridge, on the north Shore (N27 20.011 W82 35.226) that has some skinny water on the way in but 7'-9' or so in the anchorage. On the south side of Ringling Causeway there's also a nice anchorage between Otter Key and Lido Key (N27 18.759 W82 34.125) that is also perfect for your yacht. Tow a kayak along and you can paddle up to St. Armands for Ice Cream at Killians (Sp?) Candy Store that is definately worth the effort.

Cheers,
