But when you pair grapefruit with avocado, the avocado's healthy fats actually help increase lycopene absorption, making it more available for your body to use.

A wasted opportunity, ya ask me.
Does it say anything about the benefits of mixing vodka with grapefruit? I hope it's as healthy as the avocado. If it is I should live forever

Darn it, he missed an opportunity to increase his lycopene absorption. If he would have had a Manson Supreme, this story would have ended much differently. He would have made it ashore, hitched a ride to his Mom's house, recharged his cell phone, called SAR, and we would have spent 100,000 USD to rescue his boat.

I've just made a slight modification to your otherwise spot-on post, Cap.

And who knew a homeless beach spa offered free provisioning?

Too True, I wonder if I can get the coordinates to the free grapefruit people. To be most accurate, he needed a Danforth, Bruce, CQR all 316 stainless, hybrid with a 1000' of 1/2" high tensile galvanized chain.

I figure the free avocado people live next door to the free grapefruit people. One stop shopping.

You actually can get a decent boat for $500.00-$2,000. Some folks just don't want their old boats any more and really do not want to pay a $200 slip fee on a boat worth $2,000 or less that isn't being used.

Now when I say you can get a boat at those prices you have to realize it isn't going to look like a room at the Hilton down below, BUT it isn't a motel 6 either because it was too well built!

Mine was $2,000 and it has a 20lb CQR on about 250' plus 25'-30' of heavy chain hanging off the bow.

Damn thing will about kill you at times if you have to move several times. The Old Salt that owned this Bristol also had a second anchor ready. A Big Ass Bruce on 300' of new line with 30 plus feet of more heavy chain.

My boat has held at anchor several times all night in winds of 28 plus with waves 50-70 yards from the beach a couple times, and from very shallow water a few times. Terrible nights though.

My point is we probably wouldn't have even heard of this guy had the boat had a couple decent anchors.

Btw, my boat came with 3 Danforth anchors also one large enough to possibly hold the Bristol at 6600lbs.

That would be Palmyra Island.

That'd be Buck Walker. It happened in Palmyra atoll. It's a private island chain that is now staffed with scientists....I have the book and read it multiple times (favorite book) saw the movie also....it was good too!
Sorry I missed this post where you corrected Thom.

Re: Sailor Abandons Boat off Florida coast

Lots of folks here on CF recommend the "follow your dream" method. Some folks here say buy the book "Sailing for Dummies," buy a small boat and learn to sail.

I usually recommend take a basic sailing course. This would not have been such a great thread had the fellow spent the money on a sailing course instead of the poor boat so I defer to those who say just follow your dream. It provides a lot more interesting reading here on the forum when they get into trouble.

Yes, let's phone the newspapers and call him a "bluewater sailor." Did he get further than Hot Rod in San Francisco Bay? Hot Rod spent a lot more money so this fellow would be an "economical bluewater sailor with a tiny carbon footprint."

Actually, his "carbon footprint" is a little bigger than you gave him credit for. The "yacht" itself has a substantial carbon outlay along with the eventual towing and landfill processes, and don't forget Mom had to drive the old dinomobile from Jacksonville to pick-up our hapless bluewater sailor.

My .02¢, keep the change.
