Sailing the Northeast Monsoon!

Here is a completely amateur video of our sail yesterday. The northeast monsoon set in and we had about 20 kts all day. It was a complete blast. My brother is helming and my partner is tending the main.

We have the genny furled to about 100% and are still doing hull speed.

We circumnavigated Tekong Island and this is the windward beat.

Here is a low angle shot on the low side.

::jealousy::

We're battening down in prep for an arctic blast, predicted to start tomorrow. Seeing the three of you in short sleeves with fine wind is *not* conducive to kind thoughts...

24 hours later...

Life is like a bowl of chocolates...

Here's what we got 24 hours later. The rain was coming into the bar horizontally.

40 minutes later the rain was stopping and this thing came down the channel. Our jetty runs north. The 20 knot wind was northeast and the ship was crabbed at about a 15 degree angle. I'm amazed they didn't wipe out the moorings.

I like this photo. To give you perspective the tri anchored off our pontoon is a ninety footer. The green sailboat just in front of the first escort tug is a 40 footer.

And we send our 11 year olds out in dinghy's to play in that channel - LOL...

Amgine - So sorry for your cold weather. Come visit us in Feb for a mid-winter break.

Heh!

Yah, I remember the monsoons...

I don't honestly mind the cold we're about to get. We moved here from Minnesota, in part because Vancouver gets about 3-4 weeks of 'mostly cold' weather a year; it's rare there's snow on the ground in the city for more than a few days.

I *do* mind that our warm weather seems coupled with a lack of wind... so when it's most comfortable to be out sailing it's less likely one will be able to actually sail. ::grumbles good naturedly:: No trips to Singapore this year, buying new dresses for the boat. 3-4 new sails before June is going to hurt the kitty.
