Sailing in Greek Islands

Happy New Year to All,

I have been going through the forum but I haven't seen much about sailing in Greece. I guess it's because most members come from the US, so Mediterrenean Sea is a bit far for this.

However, as many Americans visit (again and again) the Greek Waters, I would expect to see more. Actually, this is a choice to consider, as Greek islands include many advantages for sailing: diversified weather conditions (with strong or calm winds) bigger or smaller waves, according to the sailing area, really a lot of destinations with moderate distance to each other, combination of night life and calm bays to stay safely overnight, safe conditions (no dangerous fish, no piracy, no violence), amazing cuisine and local culture and other. Not to mention the ancient monuments of one of the oldest civilizations of the world which exist in most places you visit.

Particularly in this period, where financial crisis has kept prices low and US dollar is strong compared to euro, it seems that it Greece is an ideal destination for sailing.

Does anybody share this opinion?

Thanks and Regards, and Best wishes for New Year,

"Sail in GreekWaters"

Re: sailing in greek islands

Hi Greekwaters and welcome.

There have been a couple of discussions about sailing Greece and one of our active members Ram, has been sailing and chartering in the area for years.

Here's a link to one recent thread about Greece. http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ece-56302.html

I hope to make it over that way in the next couple of years.

Regards
Skip
