Sailing Guide

Hi everyone, I'd like to know what's the best guide to consulting for a passage from Panama to French Polinesia.

Re: Sailing Guide

I don't think one exists. "World Cruising Routes" by Jimmy Cornell provides good routing info and is probably the best guide you will find.

There also is the old Charlie's Charts, but that is really for once you reach Marquesas and then points farther westward. Typical route is to sail (motor mostly, in our case in 2008) from Panama to Galapagos Islands. Then Galapagos to Marquesas, usually Hiva Oa. There is also a French guide for French Polynesia that was pretty good, but our copy contained more than a few misprints and typos -- such as saying SE when the author meant SW or NE and having digits transposed in waypoints. Unfortunately, I sold that guide and do not remember the name or author; but I would be hesitant to recommend it anyway because of the typos it contained.

Re: Sailing Guide

Well, you sorta leave Panama and sail into Polynesia one day.

I liked this book:

- The Pacific Crossing Guide.

We also had:

- Landfalls of Paradise,
- South Pacific Anchorages.
