Sailing from San Diego to Alaska

Man...after seeing this video...

... I want to cruise Alaska. The scenery up there is probably among the best in the world. Summertime up there would be paradise. No crowds and pure beauty.

What months would be the best to sail from Southern California to Alaska? How long would it take? Go offshore or just sail coastal?

Re: Sailing from San Diego to Alaska

My brother sailed from Seattle to Juneau in his newly purchased J/30. It took him a week or so. The main problem he encountered was lack of wind. They ended up motoring a good portion of the way. Putting in to refuel takes a long time - the distances are huge. Absolutely beautiful, but summer is prone to light wind along the coast.
