Sailing Club near Washington, DC

Hello Forums!

I was wondering if anyone would recommend a good sailing club near (around 1 hour drive or less) Washington, DC.

To give a bit of background, my wife have spent a full season sailing flying scots and other smaller boats on the Potomac river. We're now looking to get some experience on larger boats, larger water and meet some nice people - but we're not ready to buy a boat.

To date we've checked out two clubs, which both had elements we liked and did not like:
  1. The Chesapeake Boating Club
  2. Sail Solomons
In any case, if you guys have any recommendations we'd love to hear them.

Thanks!

I don't know those two, but I think your best bet is in Annapolis. I know there was at least one club there with a lot of one design sailing, including J-24's.. Severn Sailing Association, or something like that.

Thank you both for your suggestions!

To be honest, I think we'd prefer something on the Chesapeake since we spent most of last year on that bit of the Potomac just south of DC.

I wasn't aware of the Quantico club though, we'll have to look into it.

You're welcome! I agree the Chesapeake will be more challenging sailing. But if you want something local as walk on crew just show up on race day. I heard DISC is doing Tuesday night races now. Check out the calendar for QYC and think about attending our next meeting.
