Two entries from 1964.

Father Goose, staring Cary Grant, Leslie Caron, Trevor Howard. Grants final major screen appearance. He picked this film to be his last because it allowed him to be a little less polished as he was growing older.

I have seen that film more than 100 times, easily.

Another 1964 release from a boating perspective was The Incredible Mr. Limpet staring Don Knots. Not great, but a fun movie if you like Don Knots.

Re: Sailing and seamanship movies

Tiger Shark (1932) with Edward G. Robinson.
Captain Blood, as already mentioned.
The Buccaneer (1938)
Last of the Buccaneers (1950)
Mutiny On The Bounty (1935) and (1962)
How bout them?

Thanks for your post GrowleyMonster;

There are two mutiny movie in the list. Both of them are excellent movies. First one is Marlon Brando's "Mutiny on Bounty (1962)" and second one is Mel Gibson's "The Bounty (1984)". I will include 1935 in watchlist but if I could find a copy.

Captain Blood and Last of Buccaneers were added to list by today.

The 1935 stars Clark Gable and Charles Laughton and the plot is slightly different than the 1962 version. Marlon Brando and Trevor Howard were in the '62 remake. Then there was Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins in the 1984 remake which (and I usually don't like remakes) I think was the best one. There was also a silent version, "Mutiny Of The Bounty" made in 1916 according to IMDB but I haven't seen it and don't know if it still exists.

Re: Sailing and seamanship movies

Great list!

"Operation Petticoat" is a must see addition especially if you like Father Goose.

Since submarine services train some of our best sailors how about adding these seamanship Classics...
Run Silent Run Deep
U-571
K-19 The Widowmaker
20,000 Leagues Under The Sea
The Abyss

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, now watching THE BOUNTY (1984) on youtube.
The soundtrack created for this movie by Vangelis is awesome.

Re: Sailing and seamanship movies

I'm going to suggest having two categories:
#1- Movies which have sailing as the main theme, such as "Wind" "Captain Ron" "Summer Rental" ect ect
#2- All other movies which seem to feature the ocean, including those which include a glimpse of the ocean in the background.

Re: Sailing and seamanship movies

How about a desert island movie or two (I noticed you had the Tom Hanks film).

Castaway (1986) - IMDb (Castaway, 1986)
Swept Away (1974) - IMDb (Swept Away, 1974)
