Sahara Desert Snow Storm

This rare occurrence on December 19 must have left the global warming believers scratching their heads.

A white Christmas in the Sahara...

Pretty cool. Global warming is a fact not opinion. Cause up for debate. Global warming has no relation to a single event though. "It's a cold winter here so global warming doesnt exist!" haha

Re: Sahara Desert Snow Storm

It's not rare to have freezing temperatures in some parts of Sahara desert. What's rare is the rain, or in this case a bit of snow..

Re: Sahara Desert Snow Storm

Deserts can be cold and can have snow and ice. Sometimes lots of it!

Even places we typically think of as hot, can be cold and have snow.

For example, several inches (reported up to 15 inches) of snow fell in the Middle East, notably in Jerusalem in 2013. See amazing photos here:

The driest place on earth, a desert, is in Antarctica. Second largest desert is in the Arctic. Third largest is the Sahara.

Here is a good article that explains why.

Saw a meme on line the other day. Shot of the Titanic going down, with its stearn high in the air. Caption reads, "if we're sinking why are.we hundreds of feet in the air?"

Re: Sahara Desert Snow Storm

Yes, many places that are high in Sahara get below zero at night. Daily ranges can easily exceed 30 degs centigrade too! Pretty awesome.

I love deserts, ice and outback. I will be reborn as a Camel then! ;-)

Cheers,

Re: Sahara Desert Snow Storm

The earth has been warming since the mini ice age which occurred some hundred years ago. (A thousand years ago it was warmer.) That was a period of famine in many parts of the world. The warming occurred before industrialization. Can't deny warming, but the question is does mankind's activity a significant cause and whether warming is good or bad.

Re: Sahara Desert Snow Storm

There are only two questions:
1) do you believe in thermometers? or are they just "the devils work"?
2) if "yes" to (1): read the data. If "no" to (1), ignore it and pray.

Re: Sahara Desert Snow Storm

Personally I prefer to use a data sample from my freezer as evidence of global cooling. It's about as reliable and valid a data point as thepicture .
