Ronnie Simpson gives a nice re-cap of his final day at sea in the SHTP. He wrote:

"from Ronnie (Warrior's Wish) 2010.07.07
"this Warrior's wish' post race blog

"July 6, 2010- Hanalei Bay, Kauai, Hawaii
"Caution: This is a long entry.

"So, uh, yeah. It's over. I'm in Kauai after completing my first Singlehanded Transpac. Was it worth it? Yes. Was it everything I thought it would be? No. it was more. Was crossing the line in Kauai the best single moment in my life? It's a distinct possibility. Finishing this race, in that very moment, was the realization of a dream. Two years ago, this goal of singlehanding to Hawaii nearly killed me and it took everything I owned, stranding me in a foreign land with nothing. Except for the dream."

I quit following Ronnie after he posted biking video where he about tagged that truck in China going the wrong way down a one way street...or what ever country it was he off loaded that freighter in....

But he is already a better sailor then I am ...and Im very happy for him and impressed with his stick-to-it-tive-ness.

Well done Ronnie

Unfinished business in the Pacific! Or Rescue in the Pacific, part II

This from Ronnie's blog.

All is not well aboard the good ship "Warrior's Wish". Unfortunately, the keel broke off of the boat last night. Fortunately, it didn't take part of the hull with it, so we are not taking on water. We are currently motor sailing with a small jib up. The Coast Guard is maintaining 2 hour radio checks with us and a freight ship is on its way to drop off diesel fuel. Life raft and ditch bag are in the cockpit, on the ready, in case the boat capsizes. We are doing everything in our power to get this boat back to California.

The news today is that they were dropped some diesel, and motoring their way to California. Hopefully they don't hit weather on the way!

Yesterday's 'Lectronic Latitude reported that, against considerable odds, Ronnie Simpson and Ed McCoy have safely returned the "keel-less" Warrior's Wish to Richmond. From the piece:

"Warrior's Wish Wobbles Home

"August 18, 2010 – Richmond

(Click on the
photo to enlarge it.)
"Ronnie Simpson and Ed McCoy pulled off the impossible by sailing under the Gate very early this morning.

"A 21-day return passage from Hawaii isn't shabby for any boat, but it's downright miraculous for one that lost her keel nearly 800 miles from the beach. But Ronnie Simpson has once again proven that miracles do happen, this time by sailing under the Gate early this morning."

To read the entire report, go to:

Latitude 38 - 'Lectronic Latitude

If Ronnie keeps this up, he's going to become a fine mariner.

The owner of the boat has to be mighty relieved as well...Mainly for the safety of both sailors, I bet he has been feeling horrible....but also to get his boat back as well....It will be interesting to se what haul out proves.

Impressive little boat to say the least.

That first Pacific passage of his was ill-advised, ill-planned for and he obviously lacked the experience for it. At the time, CF members, myself included, gave him some flak for it.

So, I figure it's only fair to give him his due now.
