Re: Reported overdue SV Watercolour left Hilo Aug. 1 bound for BC

I left Maui on August 1 for Vancouver. There were several Vic Maui return boats who left about the same time. The Pac Cup boats were also heading home then as well (I saw on the way back.)

The first 4 days were a bit rough and as were the last 4 days (30 knot winds and 20 foot seas.). We got to Victoria to clear C&I on August 20 after a stop in Neah Bay.

There have been posts on both the Vic Maui and Pac Cup Facebook pages asking if anyone had contact. There have been no responses.

BTW - I did start an earlier thread

i hope he was not caught up in one. they seem to have all taken a fairly unusual northern route this year
We encountered the aftermath of the late July hurricanes but encountered none on the way back.

Race Tracker - Vic-Maui Yacht Race has the return tracks of the Vic Maui boats. I was on Miles.

Thanks Jack. Lat 38 showed the course of the Coast Guard flying over the route. Pretty much a straight line - not sure that would have been the route taken though.

I found the same article and was relieved until I read that the rescue was off the horn of Africa...then I looked at the date!

The Coast Guard is not actively searching. It's a large area and they do not have any specific location to search like they would if there was a mayday. There is an all ships message to traffic in the area. The run from Hilo to Victoria is not a major shipping route though shipping does converge when approaching the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Keeping up hope.
