Rent from Someone Selling and Solo Essentials

Hello forum, i am planning to sail for 4 months, starting in april. Still no rute decided yet neither exact dates, but i wanted to get my adventure started by posting here a thread to get opinions for two things

1. I need to rent a monohull, 32 to 39ft, in good conditions and for a great price. I have not checked yet with big charter companies for a " long rent" i still wonder if i will get a better deal from someone currently triying to sell a boat, by renting it for a couple of months...any thoughts?

2. Initial sailing area will be the carib (windward islands) where i have been sailing the last 3 yrs. Since it is going to be a long sailing period i wanted to open the debate on 3 non obvious things you believe esential to have in the boat for such a trip.

A toda vela!!

1.) I like to bring musical instruments that I don't know how to play yet. It keeps you busy and is good for keeping the mind sharp.
2.) Hanging cured meats like beef sticks, salami, and Jamón Serrano. They are a good way to keep meat without taking up fridge space and make my inner hobbit happy.
3.) Resistance bands for working out, they are light and keep you in shape

Well if I were trying to sell a boat I sure wouldn't rent it out for a couple of months. I would want it to be available to show, in case an interested buyer showed up.

I would think you would have better luck renting from someone who does NOT want to sell their boat, but is not using it this season either. How you would find such a person, I have no idea.

I was just about to type the same thing! I can understand your thinking that if someone wants to sell, they'd like to earn some extra money but what Denver wrote above is going to be true. They will want it clean and tidy and available, to rent it out for the four months you said would take it off the market right upto the start of the hurricane season, pretty much writing off the whole of the year.
