Radio Etiquette - Monkey Starts 3rd World War

it all ways amazes me the the banter on the vhf passing through busy shipping lanes, though this time the greek and philipino's may have gone too far.

banana banana banana.......

I personally always enjoyed when some offended person would part whisper, part growl expletives to the summoner of the monkey.

Another good one was when the females on watch would use the VHF over in the East. There were occasionally some interesting things said in response!!

Loose lips sink ships. It's better not to tell the media or anyone if you know the whereabouts or destination of a US warship. It's too bad so many in the US media want to report this information. Sons and daughters are aboard those ships.

I know where one carrier is going right now and I have no idea whether or not the country on the potential receiving end knows. I would never assume that everyone knows about ship movements and just start blabbing away about what I know. As I said, peoples sons and daughters are on those ships.

The most terrible abuse of VHF (16, but also other working channels like 23)
you may find traversing Gib street and going north. Howling, anything you may imagine being transmitted. Mostly fishermen from the northern Arab but also the Spanish contributing.
In that part of the Med we switch off VHF. A shame but reality. North of the Baleares it becomes more quiet.

Hmmm. country couldnt be run by a guy with a name that looks like "I need a dinner jacket" by any chance...

Doesn't take a Cray to figure out where things are moving in that part of the world these days.

Besides, the Israelis already know about it.

@ Atoll : When I am out at sea I don' t really like audio intruders disturbing my solitude and rest. I make an exclusion for Paganini, Bruch, Tchaikovsky and the like.
I belong to another generation and even years ago I was already the odd duck in the pond.
