QE2B sinking

Hi BC Mike. In reply to your question below about QE birthday weekend and a Lotus. I haven't heard of anything directly over the weekend, nor in particular that design of boat.

On the 2nd was the incident that involved the yacht Thyme and the argument over the bolt and anchor parting company, resulting in the running aground and loss of the vessel off the Taranaki coast. Can't remember off the top of my head what the vessel was.
Also in June, but I don't know the date, a vessel was lost after running aground on Norfolk Island. The anchor warp had frayed and parted company at 3AM. She was a Lidgard design, originaly called Takiri and renamed Bad Omen.
On July 28, a 48ft Ketch named Sailfish, ran aground on Cape Farewell spit in ruff sea's. She managed to get herself off.

Thats all I know. The weather over QB was cold and wet with snow down low. But there were no wild storms. A friend crossed Cook straight on the Ferry on the Friday and Monday and said it was a good sailing.

Lotus

Thanks Wheels. People start stories with insufficient facts and it does not help. My brother has a Lotus 10.6, fibreglass hull, wooden deck. He built the deck. It has been a good boat for him, it got him sailing and away from the trawlers he had previously. I told him it is similer but not exactly what I would chose but getting the hull keel and rudder saved a lot of time and effort. He likes to dive and there is heeps of room aft for all the bottles and stuff, and it is good to fish from although he does complain that the back stay gets in the way.

I would love to hear more of the story. Is someone dissing Lotus designs??
I don't think I know of any boat of that size, that the backstay doesnt get in the way somehow.
