I agree with that statement but to me other factors make them unsuitable for use on a dinghy.

I wouldn't use one on a small boat because they are too heavy. Heck I don't like the weight of 4 cycle gasoline or propane outboards but it's all I can get.

I also really dislike handling diesel. It smells bad, gets on everything and is difficult to clean up.

If I find a diesel outboard at around 2 HP and 27 pounds, priced at $1K, I will seriously consider it. I'll bet it would be a bear to start a diesel with a pull rope.
