I doubt that it is a guaranteed success with lots of views. The cruising fraternity is not very large in reality. Then you want to cater for the few who are paranoid about snakes, mines etc. or who cannot do their own research.

One thing you are right about though. An entrepeneur would recognise a good business opportunity. This, I think, would not enter their radar zone.

Coops.

The reason to know about places to not go is to avoid hassles with paranoid bureaucracies. Johnston Atoll has already been mentioned, and is well known, and I remember Niihau in the Hawaiian Is., also, though not military, like Kwaj, et all, is also a no-go place.

Had to look that up. That's cool. And another category, private islands.

it depends on what will you compare to. If you compare to twitter, obviously its not. But if you compare to thousands of pages about sailing places, this idea is much better because it is unique and very useful. Every sailer would need to check about his security.

Re: Prohibited for Sailing Areas

I think you will find that the number of cruisers that go off of the beaten path is very small. So many just follow the herd. Prohibited places are usually clearly marked on charts, and include Eco-sensitive zones , in addition to military. If you want to write about places that are too dangerous , then you have a lifetime job, except that what one cruiser considers a dangerous anchorage, may be anothers place to get away from the crowd. I doubt that you will support your cruising by writing about prohibited(or dangerous) places. Just another opinion. ______Grant.

No it's not, it's a simple numbers thing. With tens if not hundreds of thousands of people that transit it every year, bound to have some "disappear".
Not due to mysterious voritces or something, just numbers.

Interesting observation, though I hope it is not true. Even the limited cruising that I do, I am thrilled to get away from humanity, and the more isolated the better. Of course that may more exposure to a criminal element. I think fear keeps the populace in control more than laziness or herd following.

I agree, no mysteries or paranormal phenomena, just a big ass area of ocean. I don't think most realize how huge an area the supposed triangle encompasses.

Even some places one is not restricted in going to can still have unpleasant legacy from 20th century wars:

Exactly. No one is being kidnapped by aliens and contrary to my earlier tongue in cheek post, there are no magnetic vortices or citizens from Atlantis coming up from their undersea cities to take you away.

It's just a huge area with lots of traffic; yachts, ships and planes transiting the area with lots of ways to get lost, run aground, etc.

Re: Prohibited for Sailing Areas

Anchoring near or landing anywhere on Buru in Indonesia was totally prohibited in the past (20 years back). I don't have any up to date information and the situation may have changed.

It was for a long time, a "prison island" for political dissidents.
