I recently found that on Murora atoll (Moruroa - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) nuclear weapon tests were conducted. So I wonder, what other places (I am interested in islands) are dangerous to sail to? Not only because of nuclear weapon test, but maybe there are other dangers, of course, except piracy (this info is already published everywhere) For example, does people still disappear in the Bermuda triangle ?

AFAIK Diego Garcia is off limits

I'd wager that many more people have disappeared in Marina del Rey than were ever lost in the Bermuda Triangle.

From Iguazu Falls to Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, there are some breathtakingly beautiful places in Brazil. Ilha da Queimada Grande, located about 90 miles off the São Paulo coast, seems like another one of those beautiful places—at first glance. Almost every Brazilian knows about the island, but most would never dream of going there—it's infested with between 2,000 and 4,000 golden lancehead vipers, one of the deadliest snakes in the entire world.

These vipers' venom can kill a person in under an hour, and numerous local legends tell of the horrible fates that awaited those who wandered onto the shores of "Snake Island." Rumor has it a hapless fisherman landed onto the island in search of bananas—only to be discovered days later in his boat, dead in a pool of blood, with snake bites on his body. From 1909 to the 1920s, a few people did live on the island, in order to run its lighthouse. But according to another local tale, the last lighthouse keeper, along with his entire family, died when a cadre of snakes slithered into his home through the windows.

In Mexico, it is dangerous to sail to the Revillagigedos without proper permitting. Also a small group of Islands between Cabo and Banderas Bay are prison colonies: strictly forbidden. Clipperton can be dangerous if the weather changes while anchored off; Isabella also. I hear that both Pitcairn and Easter island have poor anchorage options-dangerous to try and land under certain conditions. I'll bet the island Cape Horn is on can get squirrely. Newfoundland has Katabatic winds. In short, lots of islands have manifold dangers. Perhaps you could make a list of the islands you wish to sail to and enquire for specifics, though I'll bet the list of islands soaked in radiation is pretty short.

even thou Diego Garcia is stated as "off limits" its a well known stop-over in an emergency.. and why anybody would want to stop there is beyond me except for an emergency.. Been there, and its not a pretty place....

There are a number of rocks and cliffs off the Washington Coast that you would be a crazy man to get close to, still I heard of people occasionally kayaking the area...
So is it off limits if the current and waves make it extremely dangerous?
