Pre-Inspection Survey checklist

Hi folks,
Does anyone have a spreadsheet or word document they have used when looking at boats?

I'm going to go view several over the coming weeks and I am looking for a good note-taker format to guide me on the walk-around that will help me be consistent in evaluation.

Not necessarily a survey per se, but something close. Seems like I used to have a Don Casey book that had a checklist, but I can't seem to find it. Maybe it was from the library...

Thanks for the help!

Try this link to a pre-survey spreadsheet someone else developed (can't remember who, but thanks!)

Re: Pre-Inspection Survey checklist

Some insurance companies have "forms" that can be very useful.

As an example the Club Marine Marine Craft Insurance Risk Evaluation form.

If I were ever silly enough to buy another boat I'd fill this in a part of my first inspection. It also comes in handy in keeping surprises to a minimum for those pesky five year insurance surveys.

Club Marine has a whole heap of forms that can be very useful when buying and using a boat.

Other marine insurance companies may have something similar.

Re: Pre-Inspection Survey checklist

if you have looked at a boat you like and seems okay to the laypersons eyes; you can always engage a surveyor to do a quick walk thru before investing the money in a full survey with haul out. a good surveyor can tell alot about a boat and knows the major areas that are costly usually in 20 minutes to an hour of going through a boat..depending on size.
ultimately a full survey with sea trial usually pays for itself and eliminates very costly unforseen repairs.
