POLLS

As we all know, polls can be misleading for many reasons.

Can data gained on a CF poll be considered reliable?

After all CF is different things to different people.

To some it is entertainment and to others it is deadly serious. Some have a sense of mischief, and some have a sense of humour.

This is never more evident than in the Multi V Mono threads.

Re: POLLS

What's next? A poll to ask people whether or not they want to answer a poll about whether or not they want to see polls about polls?

Re: POLLS

Not really, most likely a poll about if you agree to poll the CF about polls and if you own a multihull make a poll again and see if the poll is the 99% in your side, Poll fest!!!!

Re: POLLS

weavis' poll was actually useful.

Not so much this one.

Now if you'd asked: "Is this poll useful? Yes or NO?" I have no issue answering.

Just tongue in cheek of course.

Re: POLLS

PS. Some data on CF can be trusted, especially when sources are quoted. Especially mechanical data.

Opinions are worth what you pay for them, and are like fundamental orifices: everyone's got one!

Re: POLLS

Polls depend a lot on the questions asked and who answers them. You need to know both in order to determine how useful or valid the data is. It's like telephone polls. Sane people these days tend to have caller ID and don't pick up the phone when a pollster calls. So the polls are reporting data on people who might not be especially "normal": they answer the phone even if the caller is from an unknown number. If the question is "Do you like ice cream or anchovies?", ice cream is going to win. Informed scepticism seems like a good approach to polls.
