PNW to Baja and Back in a Trawler

I was inspired to post this after I read a similar post about crossing the Atlantic. I've read a bunch of posts which talk about how easy it is to go south to Mexico - but they all talk about the Baja Bash heading back north. In a 50' (or so) trawler, how bad would it be? What is it really like? When would it be best to leave Mexico for the trip back home? How hard is it to find shelter along that trip? How hard is it crossing the bars? Any and all info would be helpful AND shared with the Admiral
Thanks,
Bill
