Re: Please and Thank You

Well played, that man.

(disappointed though .... I was sort of spoiling for a fight!, and had worked out roughly what I wanted to say and all ..... )

A classy climbdown, though.

(and a parting rabbit-punch : )

Good to know that "manners" is not your trump card, though . . .

Thenk you, thenk you.

If it came right down to it, and the gods held a meeting and demanded that I account for myself and list my contributions, manners would be at the bottom of the sheet of paper. On page 14. Of volume three.

Re: Please and Thank You

You do excel yourself, I have run out of superlatives

(I almost wrote superlaxatives but that was clearly the
malign influence of one of the s
infesting the parts of my head for which I refuse to
acknowledge responsibility.... now let me see, there's hmmm the
cerebal cortex, the prefrontal lobes, the thingummy accumbens,
the amygdala (or maybe that's a Star Wars character) and ... )

Talking of godheads, though, nothing local about Estar,
he do bestow his favours right profligate, like,
across interwebs and oceans alike.

You could almost accuse him of omnipresence.

I talked to someone who bought a stick of chewing
gum from the hairdresser of a circus midget who
managed to unobtrusively touch his hem when
he was down these parts a while back...

it was OARSUM!

I used to be partial to cats before.
Now, not so much.

WARNING: serious thread drift!

I got a very look from a woman the other day. She asked me if liked children and I replied

"yes, I do. Grilled preferably, deep fried are also ok"

Re: Please and Thank You

Many years ago (before the break-up of Ma Bell) I worked on a trouble tracking system for AT&T. Basically, anywhere in the country, any time someone called to say they were having trouble with their phone, it would generate a record in my database. When the trouble was closed the technician would note what fixed it, and that would also go in my database as the "resolution."

Looking at the database one day and I noticed that in well over 1/3rd of the cases the resolution was nothing more than "PFM." At the time, I had no idea what PFM meant, so when I got a chance I asked a former technician if he knew.

Yep. Pure F'ing Magic. This was well known, and used by telephone technicians all across the country. From the smallest towns to the biggest cities, and from Hawaii to Alaska to Florida, and everywhere in between.

It's when you get there and it has fixed itself. Or you look around, don't really do anything, but suddenly it starts working again. Or anything else like that. Since being clued into what PFM is, I have--over the many years--discovered that it is the only meaningful explanation for a whole lot of things in this world.

"I helped my uncle jack off a horse" is another one for punctuation and capitals.
