Planning Trip Portugal to Canaries and Azores

Hi there

My boat is currently in Portimao, Portugal. March next year I'm planning a short cruise to incorporate Madeira, Canaries, Azores and A Coruna Spain.

The plan is to leave the boat in A Coruna and return to UK the following year.

Checking the Pilots the prevailing winds and tides always set south.

Has anyone carried out such a trip and if so can you advise on the best routing to make progress north?

thanks

Derek

Re: Planning Trip Portugal to Canaries and Azores

If you have the time and flexibility there are south west winds that would take you from the Canaries back to the Spain. We waited in Gibraltar for 2 weeks while these winds were blowing screwing up our departure to the Canaries. If you can't do that you have to pick real light air days and motorsail stopping along the coast of Africa enroute north.

I'd go Canaries, Madeira, Azores, La Coruna....
