I will maybe accept PWC the day they become silent and leave no significant wake, just like sailing boats or windsurfers. They are the same kind of pollution as those Rigid Inflatable Boats with 2x200HP outboard engines.

Limp too.

Hence the reason I have no need for a PWC at whatsoever.

As far as noisy and annoying....yes they are...so are helicopters, but they're also very cool and I want one as well.

The real reason James cannot own either a PWC or a helicopter is actually very simple. Most of you will find this hard to believe, but James looks EXACTLY like Pierce Brosnan. I Sh*t you not. Were he to ride either around people, EVERYONE would be looking for a camera crew or asking for autographs. I'm sure most of you wont believe this, but it's true. I DARE him to post a pic of himself... My wife cant tell them apart!

While a heat seeking missile would be great, I'll settle for a deck mounted 20mm.

I hate the bloody things. I'm not a great fan of power boats either but PWCs are the the most annoying things ever invented next to the skidoo.

If you like to water ski, and you like motorcycles, you will LOVE riding on a PWC.

I suspect that here in Seattle, we have fewer sailboat/PWC run ins as the fast little fellers tend to stick to freshwater and stay out of 54 degree Puget Sound (where the grumpy sail boaters play).

PWCs however, are just toys and their users are often not owners and they are never a home away from home. The operators do not have their families with them and have not spent weeks and months aboard and operating them like cruising sailboats. I would also guess that their operators average age may be decades younger than the other boats that could be accurately called yachts.

There is never an excuse to swap safety for fun, but we could cut them some slack and remember that no one class of boat or person "owns" the water.

Humbly,

Jud

But, I don't need to cross the road.

Jud,
You are right on. I have a feeling if I ever played on one I wouldn't mind being called a flea

My favorite saying is that "Jet Skis (PWCs) are the reason God gave us shotguns."

They buzz the anchorage here occasionally as fast as they can to get a look at the pretty boats.

Don't like them and don't like their operators.

regards,

Memories (with apologies to Bette Midler)...

My two memories of PWC are:-
1) Swimming off my favourite island I came across one broken down (If you break down in the Phils. you're dead meat) and he was in trouble. I towed him back to shore (I was younger and fitter then and wearing fins).
2) Second very sad memory is second hand. Foreigner sets out to go from Bohol to Panglao on his PWC and never gets there. Found his body some days later. No life jacket. About a 10-15nm trip.

Can't afford to have anything go wrong on any sort of trip with one of those things. No backup and no life support on them at all.

Out of all the pics you could post...you picked the least dignified pose possible! Dont you have any wearing a tuxedo and sipping a martini (shaken, not stirred)??? How 'bout one driving an Aston Martin, or...I dont know...ANYTHING but standing there with balloons tied to your head!
