Pacific side of Guatemala....just keep going?

Any recommendations for the Pacific side of Guatemala? Admittedly were are in the infancy stages of researching this area, but have found the best information comes from the boards. Just looking for areas that would be a good place to stop on our way from Mexico to El Salvador.

Re: Pacific side of Guatemala....just keep going?

I live in Guate (well, when I'm there anyway...). Have not cruised the Pacific side, but have friends who have stopped in there with less than good experiences. One who had to slip out at night due to threats of confiscating his boat. Not like the very cruiser friendly Atlantic side (Rio Dulce).

The Pacific coast of Guatemala (which I've traveled by land) is not one of the highlights of this amazingly beautiful country anyway. Just inland in the Western highlands is spectacular though. That's the only reason, aside form a break of course, I could see for stopping in on the Pacific coast. That, or doing some big game fishing, which is world class.

Pacific coast of Nicaragua is much prettier. As are the Pacific coasts of Panama and Costa Rica.
