I have bought on Ebay but agree you have to really know how much the item you are bidding on is worth because I have seen alot of stuff sell on there for much more than it is worth.
Lately I have found myself purchasing through Craigslist more and purchasing on Ebay less.

You should always look around the site before you bid. I've seen items on ebay where multiple sellers are selling several of the same things every day and I've been outbid by people who end up paying more than another seller's buy-now price for the exact same item.

What Ron Fran said. And I've seen people list things with a "buy it now" that was $10 over what WalMart charges. Plus shipping.

The gus I work with call my boat "eBay" because they reckon most of the stuff that goes into it's refit comes from that source

As has already be noted, successful eBaying is all about (i) research and (ii) patience.

I don't get into the bidding game. I put in the max amount of money I would pay for it, and go from there. If you want to beat me by a penny, that's your deal; I already put in my max.

It actually makes it so I bid a lot more often, because I rarely win. But when I do, it's for exactly how much I wanted to part with.

If I see something that I like on Ebay, I also Google it I use it for cost comparisons. But you do have to check that shipping. The only things that I have been disipointed with wher from listers that omited info. The honest ones list all info and shipping. You have to ask questions!
