Our message in a bottle is found!!

In 2014 Sailing on the Pacific midway between the Galapagos and the Marquesas we wrote notes, stuck them in a bottle and tossed it over. Last night I got an email from a constable in Queensland informing me that they found the bottle. Here is the press article.

Pretty rare, we have dropped quite a few overboard over the years and never had one come back. Pretty cool experience!

Yes Mark it was very cool getting that email late last night. This was my first big crossing and first time tossing a bottle. I probably should just quit now while I'm statistically way ahead of the average.

Typo? That's Bamaga, not Banana.
(Banana is inland, south west of Rocky, about 1000 miles south of Bamaga

I dropped one overboard about a 100 miles north of Bermuda last June. Figure it'll hit Ireland next year.

Amazing. That is a long way to go and very lucky to be found, Bamaga is as a remote place in Australia as you will ever see, although there are a few thousand people living in the place (bigger than UK I would say).

The only one we have ever dropped in the water has never reappeared. Will probably do some more next year.

I would think a significant number would end up in one of the gyres. Indeed a rare event yours was found! Bamaga is definitely out there away from most everything. Been there many years ago early 70s.
