Old Stuff

I have half a garage full of boat stuff... I recently recycled 4 old sails with Seabags... now I have to get rid of the rest.

My plan is to photograph the stuff and sell it for best offer.

I have things like inflatable foot pumps (3)
halyards
mainsail cover (16 foot boom)
oars - wood
OB gas tanks (several)
dinghy seats
VHF radios
sail bags
blocks
old 406 EPIRB

and other relics

I hate to store it and more to toss it in the dumpster.

Spring cleaning!

what kind of VHF radios do you have? are they handheld?

I believe I have... a fixed mount standard horizon... and an icom... I have an icom hand held which I have replaced with a new Horizon. All the radios work fine. I can sent pics when I dig them out in spring cleaning.

Decide now what your priority is:
A. Getting as much money for your stuff as you can
or
B. Getting rid of it quickly with minimal work and hassle

Those two goals are in direct competition with each other.

To get the most money, you'll need to clean things thoroughly, try and find online documentation (user and installation manuals) for the electronics, measure everything carefully, take lots of high quality pictures, and post it to as many sales outlets as you can (ebay, craigslist, here, etc, etc).

To just get rid of it quickly, you can take a couple quick pictures and post it in the general classifieds section here at a fair, but generally low price. If you don't want to deal with the hassle of posting the stuff, you can ask for local pickup - but lower your price appropriately.

Our club holds an annual Nautical Tag Sale where members (and others) can bring stuff they don't need and sell it. Sellers decide whether to donate the proceeds to support a club program or to keep the profits themselves. Last weekend I found anchors (Fortress), hundreds of feet of anchor line, sailing ship prints, paintings, glassware, dinghies, whalers, RIB's, (some with engines, some with oars), a handmade Rangely Lake boat (copper riveted with lapstrake cypress planks and apple knees), winches, winch handles, charts, and other gear. And I got there when half the stuff had already been sold. Maybe you could start a similar event. Lots of people came to our sale and went home happy.

I'm interested in the mainsail cover. I have an Alberg 35, I believe the boom is 15' so that sounds like it could work. Any more details? Condition? How much? I'm in Albany, NY.

sandero, if you want to sell them via CF, you have to put a price on them, for the "Classifieds". There's a bunch of requirements in a "sticky" in the Classified forum.
