Old Helm Wheel

I got tired of squeezing around my 48" wheel and replaced it with a Lewmar 42" folding wheel. The old wheel wouldn't fit down the hatch and I'm not sure it would even fit into my car. I what to get it off the boat etc. but wonder what the hell I do with it, any ideas?

Take it to Washington or Wall Street, they always are seeking the next big wheel.
Perhaps your time has come?

Darn. You beat me to it.

Two votes for a coffee table. Of course a modern stainless wheel doesn't quite have the look of an old, spoked wood wheel but you gotta make do with what you have.

Re: Old Helm Wheel

Why Don, this is the perfect opportunity for the owner of a tiller steered boat to own and carry a spare wheel!!

Thanks but don't have room below for a coffee table (and it wouldn't fit down the hatch) and I have no need for another piece of furniture to get rid of next year.

Cut off the spokes, polish the rim, and have the best looking hula hoop out there.
All the 5 year-olds will be insanely jealous!

Don't stick it down your pants, or it will just drive you nuts…

Re: Old Helm Wheel

still have it on the boat with no worthwhile use found for it yet

wonder what it is worth as scrap metal, of course I would have to cut it up to get it to the scrap yard

Re: Old Helm Wheel

I hope you were able to recover it. It wouldn't do anything good to anyone's attempt to anchor.

Re: Old Helm Wheel

if anyone decides to anchor 5 miles out in 150' of water they have other issues than hanging up on an old helm wheel
