NYC Harbor current/wind

I thinking of catching the current tomorrow down the East river from Long Island Sound to sandy Hook. The current planning appears pretty straight forward, but I concerned about waves at the Battery. Tomorrow's wind forecast is 10-15 SW, which puts the current and wind counter to each other with me riding the current. I've had some hairy experience with this in Boston in the past so wonder what experience in NY Harbor others have experienced.

Where are you headed? Liberty Landing or one of the other marinas? Or are you continuing on to Sandy Hook? New York can be super sloppy as much from wind or current but from the heavy ferry and commercial traffic.
