One that the Government takes more than you get for yourself?

It doesn't matter if you like or hate Big Government...it is broke and the system will collapse under the weight of the promises and lies. Take all the evil 1%-ers money, cut the military spending to zero..and the Country is still broke and can't pay the promises.

Plan accordingly...or face the consequences because $15/hr or $20/hr minimum wage is just a smoke screen for the real issues....that no one wants to talk about, but everyone knows in their gut are real.
Im so with you on this. It dosent take much looking to see where this is going. Numbers never lie! People just cant count.

Printing press game/quantitative easing, also known as "socialism for the rich."

Banks borrow and bet more than they have, oops, "unknown" buggered up his sums, banks catch cold, run bawling & mewling in soiled Pampers to governments to fix mess.

Banks rush to bet brilliant new windfall on each other's foreclosed property bargains, latest even cleverer wheezes, same time refusing loans to business customers now suddenly considered bad risks because of same banks' incompetence...

Everyone but banks pick up bill for next fifty years.

Slight oversimplification but - that the kind of socialist gig you mean?

Don't worry, bankers will be fine. Party goes on. Now they've seen there's money in incompetence they'll do it again.

Best thing was Wall St. marcher's banner said, "JUMP! you f*ckers"

I'd like to meet the trooper who can put ten rounds into a one-inch circle at 500 meters with an iron-sighted M16 and standard ammo.

Or maybe you'd wish to include churches, mosques, temples etc. in your definition of the evil 1%?

Your arguments fail on so many levels.
You attempt to duck the issue of massively increasing inequality with these diversions.

.
Several problems with your examples:
- Musicians, authors, painters, etc... who make big bucks are few and far between. May as well say winning the lottery is a good path to wealth. If you actually win, it looks good...realty is it's a horrible investment all but guaranteed to lose money.
- All those musicians, authors, actors, etc...Guess what they are mostly made or broke by the evil 1% (record executives, publishers, movie studio executives, etc...).
- While he renaissance is the easiest example, show me an art show or a film festival (where the artists make big bucks) dominated by the working poor. If you want to go pre-renaissance, roman emperor and senators, Egyptian Pharoes, Chinese emperors (pick a time frame and country and it's pretty much the same) were the drivers of art. More recently, who do you think was purchasing Warhol's pictures of cambell's soup cans...it wasn't the working poor.
- Actually, if you look at it religious art is also driven by the rich. Go into major churches throughout Europe and you will find most of the side chapels were privately funded. In the middle east, the local emir often funds a grand mosque.

Still looking for an answer to my question because your first attempt failed.

Income inequality is a separate issue but people deciding they have a love of poetry, so they are going to ignore developing a viable career path to pursue it is only adding to the issue. I suspect it might be a cultural issue with movies and TV where the poor underdog follows their dream and overcomes the odds getting rich and famous after a 30 second rocky style montage when 99% of the time if repeated in the real world, they would have wound up broke and depressed.

One of best life affirming support for the disadvantaged youths I have read in quite awhile. Thank you for sharing your education, training, experience , insight, and love for these troublesome times and our youth. Also your professional manner in which you addressed misbegotten ideas. Well done.

In the Marines, we used to qualify from 200 meters, 300 meters, and 500 meters. Many who have never fired a weapon in their lives were the best shots. Artists are probably the best being laid back hippy types.

They can put 10 rounds into a 1" circle without a problem from those distances. Why? They didn't develop bad habits learning from Dad or on their own. They learned from professionals. They were in art class after school not out shooting deer and squirrels with the rest of us rednecks

Think about this. Marines spend a week just snapping in (practice firing 8 hours per day without ammo, site picture, site picture, site picture) and getting their slings correct. When your sling is correct, it will cut off the circulation to your hand. You could cut off your hand and not feel it. They believe in a tight sling!

Then a week shooting and switching targets. Working under and behind the targets

I was deadly at 500 yards slow fire, prone position............

Get a life.
Thank you for reminding me I live in the US...

45% of Americans pay no federal income tax - MarketWatch

Sometimes you have to be challenged or you get intellectually lazy.

As for being the smartest in the room...na...I save that for those that name call without advancing an argument...it's more funner that way. I'm just a simple Bozo liveaboard cruiser that knows the lie about the evil 1% is just that....a lie to make you ignore the truth.

Some pigs are more equal than others...in that case....Go Bernie...
Interesting...I also heard Verizon, GE and Caterpillar do not pay any taxes either. must be the other 1%.

Caterpillar bought a Railroad Locomotive business from General Motors in London Ontario Canada. They cancelled the existing labour contract offering workers 50% of what they had been earning under GM.
The workers tried to negotiate a better deal but CAT said NO DEAL, closed the plant and took the manufacturing business to MEXICO That's what the 1%ers can do, putting hundreds of Canadians out of work.

This is my last response to any of your posts on this subject so make the most of it.

From artists making a good living you now presume to demand examples of artists making big bucks.

Such a laughably childish ploy wouldn't succeed in a junior debating society - I'd be annoyed if anyone whose intellect I respected ever tried such a thing.

Lottery? Dominated by the working poor? Pharaohs and Chinese emperors? Rocky? Poor underdog? What fresh nonsense is this?
Did you have an actual point to make - and did you even read through what you'd written?

Maybe you think "most words wins" however randomly thrown together?

I can only assume that, were I to respond further, you would again try to move the goalposts while spewing the same random gobbledegook.

Reality is reality and a good poet can believe he's undervalued all he wants but it doesn't change the facts, so I suggest he finds away of making money from his passion (as I did) or he looks at other paths.
People need to move on from this romatic view of fairness.
Looks like you missed something along the way because rarely do artists (good poets) complain about being undervalued.

They just do what they do because it's what they love.

They very rarely care anything about material wealth.

No, don't thing I missed anything but your entitled to your opinion.
Prior to going sailing I lived in the northern NSW area of Australia for appropriately 10 years. Now the Nimbin ,Mullumbimby ,Byron Bay area could be considered one of the artist, poet ,hippy capitals of Australia.......your opinion of them not caring anything about material wealth maybe true, BUT alot that I know seem to have no hesitation being supported by the social security system!........other peoples money.

Re: Now I understand how poor i am.

BTW the minimum wage in Australia is $17.29/hr 38hr week, plus 9.5% superannuation plus 4.5% workers compensation. The businesses also collect 10% GST for the government. I don't write this to complain, just to add perspective.

Re: Now I understand how poor i am.

Heres another interesting little fact, when I looked at the demographics of my area many years ago I was stunned to find out that only approx 35% (something like that) of the local population were employed. I couldn't believe it, so I checked out neighbouring shires only to find similar results. We hear the unemployment rate is appropriately 5% and assume 95% of people work....... well in fairness Im assuming most of us don't even think about it. By the time you take out old age pensioners, children, the various disabilities allowances, unemployment benefits etc etc we are left with approx 35%!
Its the minority that get up in the morning and go to work, its a minority that go out and produce......I'm not sure how that model is going to end. Just saying.

Oh, now I get it.

You are worrying that someone is getting something for free.

Btw, most everyone I've met wants to work many even when they "retire"

Some folks love to keep bringing up this nonsense about people not wanting to work. Maybe they got tired of constantly being turned down for a job they were qualified for where someone hired their buddy that was totally unqualified for the job

On this site you see more of folks wanting to run away to the sea. Quit work and their responsibilities as parents etc but many times they are just venting/dreaming
